Have a question?

Check out our FAQs for the CaliCharge app below.

The CaliCharge app allows EV drivers to participate in smart charging.  The smart bit occurs when you connect the CaliCharge app to your vehicle, enabling it to manage when your EV starts and stops charging. You decide how much battery charge you want and when you want it ready. The app then works out the best times to charge your vehicle based on various grid scenarios while maximising use of your off-peak rates. This benefits the grid, makes the most of renewable generation and saves you money on your electricity bill.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The CaliCharge app does not interact with any other part of your EV. CaliCharge can only schedule your EV to start and stop charging when you’re plugged in at home.

The CaliCharge app connects to your EV in exactly the same way your EV’s app does. The only difference is that the CaliCharge app will periodically instruct your EV to start or stop charging when plugged in at home.

All the electricity you use will continue to be charged at your home electricity rate, that will be reflected in your regular electricity bill.

By using the CaliCharge app, you will be able to view insights about your daily energy usage for EV charging in the app. Estimated costs for the EV charging part of your usage are based on published energy rate plans and won’t include any discounts you get. CaliCharge is designed to avoid charging your car at peak rates. By allowing CaliCharge to optimize when your car charges you may see your electricity bill go down.

More information on earning credits for the Hourly Flex Pricing pilot can be found further down the page.

You can set your maximum desired state of charge (target SOC) in the Schedule page.

You can also set your ready by time in the Schedule page. We will charge your car to your chosen maximum battery charge state by the ready by time you set. In the case that your car has not reached your preferred maximum state of charge by the ready by time, charging will continue until you reach it. This can happen when there isn’t enough time between the time you plug in and the ready by time.

Use the app to override your smart charging schedule with the Urgent Charge function in the Dashboard page, if you urgently need to top-up. This will start charging immediately.

The CaliCharge app only works when you’re plugged in and smart charging at home. The CaliCharge app does not affect charging schedules when charging away from home.
